In the lead-up to the 2024 European, federal, and regional elections, we at Dataminded launched Regeringsrobot— Generative AI chatbot designed to bridge the gap between citizens and government decisions. While the tool is no longer active, its legacy as a cutting-edge solution for transparency and political understanding lives on.
Regeringsrobot was a free chatbot that empowered Flemish voters to navigate complex government decisions with ease. By leveraging Generative AI, AWS Bedrock, and GPT-4, the chatbot provided lightning-fast, factual, and neutral answers to questions about government actions across various policy areas. From education to energy policies, Regeringsrobot summarized years of government documents in seconds, offering users clear insights without judgment.
Why We Built Regeringsrobot
How It Worked
Regeringsrobot used a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approach:
Data Collection: Tens of thousands of government documents were stored in a vector database.
AI Summarization: When users asked a question, the chatbot retrieved the most relevant decisions and summarized them using an LLM (Large Language Model).
Source Verification: Every answer included references to the original documents, enabling users to verify the facts themselves.
The chatbot’s neutral stance ensured it refrained from judgment, encouraging users to draw their own conclusions based on accurate data.
